In mitigating the effects of climate change and responding to the call from Pope Francis through His letter to the church “Laudato Si’ mi Signore, CWM Kenya is taking targeted actions in restoring our common home.
Through partnering with HOAC-Spain, CWM Kenya has taken sustained initiave in building capacities of our Basegroups in Climate adaptation, resilience and Sustainability. By putting our methodology of See, Judge and Action in practice our Basegroups have identified unique climatic problems facing them and they have initiated projects that are promoting environmental protection and conservation.
In not only restoring the environment, our Basegroups are turning the projects into revenue streams by monetizing them hence improving their economic wellbeing. Sustainability can only be realized through monetizing climate adaptation initiatives like establishment of Seedlings center, migrating to Biogas as a source of cooking fuel, adapting use of energy saving jikos, fruit trees planting and establishment of kitchen gardens. These not only protect the environment but also acts as ground for Practicing Household Investment and Saving Association (HISA) which is a community practiced social financial inclusion model.
HISA program acts as a springboard to not only economic liberation for the underbanked and unbanked but also a source of climate financing.
