The Catholic Workers Movement – Kenya (CWM-K) was started in 1980 in Kenya as (Christian Workers Movement – Kenya) but later changed to Catholic Workers Movement – Kenya through the advice of Kenyan Catholic Bishops. The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) recognizes CWM-K as a Lay Apostolate Movement (LAM) committed to improve living conditions, rights and justice for workers. Being a Lay Apostolate Movement the CWM – K is under the Lay Apostolate Commission of the KCCB. Moreover CWM-K is a member of the World Movement of Christian Workers (WMCW which is recognized by the Holy See under the Lay Apostolate Department (LAD). The CWM-K is a grassroots movement constituted by base groups at Small Christian Communities (SCC) and Parishes in 14 Dioceses of Kenya.
